The White Post Farms Mining
Adventure is a unique package offered to schools, providing an
educational and fun experience for all.
Each child will receive a bag
of mining rough which is the raw dirt and rock particles from the
mine. From the outside the mining rough does not look like more
than a bag of dirt. But hidden inside are natures natural wonders.
Each child will bring their rough to our large mining sluice. Our
sluice consists of a large water tower where water flows through
various drops and turns into a wooden sluiceway. Each child will
slowly empty their bag into one of our screen bottom boxes, then
swish the box in the running water. This swishing is called
sluicing.
The
screen on the bottom of the box allows for the dirt to wash away
while it holds in your precious wonders. Remember, what you find
you keep and discuss your finds in the classroom. We strive to use
the finest mining rough to ensure easy identification for miners.
